Coconut oil

Coconut oil is our main ingredient for this homemade makeup remover, as it has a suitable texture for all skin types and a delicious scent.

In addition, while it helps us to remove makeup, it also nourishes the skin and provides it with a large amount of vitamins and minerals, which is why it is a very prominent product in natural cosmetics.

Coconut oil solidifies below 23 ºC, so in most cases it tends to have a very comfortable creamy consistency to apply it to us.

Bee wax

Beeswax is not an essential ingredient.

Although it is a natural product that keeps the skin hydrated and favors the healing of small wounds, we will only use it if the coconut oil is liquid at room temperature to add more consistency to the homemade makeup remover. In winter or in cool places it will not be necessary to add it.

Jojoba oil

Jojoba oil is the ideal ingredient to combine with coconut oil, as it is also very suitable for all skin types, even the most oily. This is because it  is the most similar to the natural sebum of the skin and hair.

Despite being an oil, it is very well absorbed into the skin and allows us to hydrate even combination, oily or acne skin, which also need a good supply of nutrients.

aloe vera

Aloe vera gel, whether it is natural from the stalk or we buy it already packaged, is a product widely used in natural cosmetics thanks to its moisturizing, soothing and healing properties.

When used in homemade products, it allows us to make a good emulsion with the oils and thus achieve a product with a creamy texture, but less fat. If our skin is oily, we can slightly increase the proportions of aloe vera and reduce that of the oils.

Do we customize the homemade makeup remover?

If we want our homemade makeup remover to also be a facial serum to hydrate the skin at night, we can take the opportunity to add some essential oil that will help us balance our skin type:

• Lavender: for dry, normal and combination skin.
• Lemon: for oily skin.
• Tea tree: for skin with acne.

Essential oils are not essential in this makeup remover. However, if we use them, we must choose them of the highest quality, making sure that they are pure and natural, and not synthetic essences without therapeutic properties. It is best to buy them at trusted pharmacies or herbalists.

How do we make it?

Ingredients

• 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (30 g)
• 3 tablespoons of beeswax (optional) (30 g)
• 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil (32 g)
• 3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel (45 g)
• 10 drops of chosen essential oil (optional)

Elaboration

• In case of using beeswax, we will put it in a water bath until it melts.
• We will add the oils and the aloe vera gel and mix well.
• We will let the preparation warm and, when it is no longer so hot, we will add the essential oil.
• We will mix well and we will have the makeup remover ready.
